Summary
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2017-2019 C300, E300, 2018-2020 CLA250, 2020 CLS450, AMG E53, AMG GT53, GLE450, 2018 AMG E63, AMG GTA, 2017-2020 GLA250, GLC300, 2019 GLC350, AMG GLC43, 2017-2018 GLE350, 2019 AMG GLC 43, GLC350, GLE400, 2017 GLS450, S550, C300 Cabrio, and 2018-2019 S560 vehicles. The communication module might have been inadvertently deactivated during a service visit, which could have disabled the Emergency Call (eCall) function.
Remedy
MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the communication module and activate it, if necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 31, 2021. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. MBUSA’s number for this recall is 2021030005.

Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz
vehicles, has determined that on certain MY 2017-2020 CLA-Class, GLA-Class, GLE-Class, GLS-Class, AMG GT-Class, C-Class, E- Class, S-Class, GLC-Class, CLS-Class, and AMG GT-Class 4-door Coupe (117, 118, 156, 166, 167,
190, 205, 213, 222, 253, 257, 290 platform) vehicles, the communication module might have been inadvertently deactivated. Should the communication module be deactivated, the emergency call function “eCall” would not be available either as an automated feature, or by manually pressing the SOS- button in the vehicle. This would inhibit the occupant from contacting the call center in the event of an emergency. After pressing the SOS-button to trigger an eCall, the customer would be informed by a warning message in the instrument cluster that the eCall is not functioning. An authorized Mercedes- Benz dealer will check the configuration of the communication module on the affected vehicles and activate the communication module, if necessary
Prior to performing this Recall Campaign:
- VMI must always be checked before performing campaigns to verify that the campaign is required on a specific Always check for any other open campaigns, and perform accordingly.
- Please review the entire Recall Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.
Please note that Recall Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Dear Mercedes-Benz Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz
vehicles, has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain Model Year (“MY”) 2017-2020 CLA-Class, GLA-Class, GLE-Class, GLS-Class, AMG GT-Class, C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLC-Class, CLS-Class, and AMG GT-Class 4-door Coupe vehicles. Our records indicate that your vehicle is included in the affected population of vehicles.
What is the CONCERN?
In certain MY 17-20 CLA-Class, GLA-Class, GLE-Class, GLS-Class, AMG GT-Class, C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLC-Class, CLS-Class, and AMG GT-Class 4-doors Coupe vehicles, the communication module might have been inadvertently deactivated. In this case the emergency call function “eCall” would not be available either as an automated feature, or by manually pressing the SOS-button in the vehicle. While the minimum repair time can be less than 30 minutes, your dealer can provide you with a better estimate of the overall time for this service visit. As a matter of normal service process, an authorized Mercedes-Benz
dealer will also check for other repair measures which might be applicable to your vehicle and this may increase the required working time.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz
vehicles, has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain Model Year (“MY”) 2017-2021 CLA-Class, GLA-Class, GLE-Class, GLS-Class, AMG GT-Class, C-Class, E-Class, E-Class Coupe, S-Class, GLC-Class, CLS-Class, and AMG GT-Class 4-door Coupe vehicles. Our records indicate that your vehicle is included in the affected population of vehicles
.
What is the CONCERN?
In certain MY 17-21 CLA-Class, GLA-Class, GLE-Class, GLS-Class, AMG GT-Class, C-Class, E-Class, E-Class Coupe, S-Class, GLC-Class, CLS-Class, and AMG GT-Class 4-doors Coupe vehicles, the communication module might have been inadvertently deactivated. In this case the emergency call function “eCall” would not be available either as an automated feature, or by manually pressing the SOS-button in the vehicle. This would prevent the occupant from contacting the call center in the event of an emergency, potentially delaying emergency responders and increasing the risk of injury. After pressing the SOS-button to trigger an eCall, the customer would be informed by a warning message in the instrument cluster that the eCall is not functioning.
What will your DEALER DO?
An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will check the configuration of the communication module on the affected vehicles and activate the communication module, if necessary. This service will be provided free of charge. We are dedicated to always delivering the best customer experience, and respect for your time is a top priority. While the minimum repair time can be less than 30 minutes, your dealer can provide you with a better estimate of the overall time for this service visit. As a matter of the normal service process, an authorized Mercedes-Benz
dealer will also check for other repair measures which might be applicable to your vehicle and this may increase the required working time.

J2534 complaint software for Mercedes-Benz vehicles is available for purchase from Mercedes-Benz
USA.
In order to use the J2534 complaint software for Mercedes-Benz vehicles, the purchaser must furnish their own:
- Windows based PC or laptop*
- J2534 compliant interface box*1*
*Must be purchased from a third party company and are not available from Mercedes-Benz USA LLC.

Vehicle Coverage
J2534 complaint software for Mercedes-Benz vehicles has coverage for all required functions associated to reprogramming, initialization, and fault clearing of emission control modules (engine and transmission) fitted to vehicles 2004 Model Year and newer. Additionally all access and functionality required in regard the configuration via SCN Coding and/or CVN Coding is covered.
J2534 complaint software for Mercedes-Benz vehicles is delivered via DVD media which is delivered monthly for the license term of one year upon purchase.
- All control unit software (reprogramming calibrations) is contained within J2534 DVD media.
Terms and conditions
J2534 complaint software for Mercedes-Benz vehicles is purchased in 1-year license increments. During that license term the user will receive an initial software package, license key, SCN/CVN Coding information/access as well as monthly updates via DVD media.
- Additional updates of software after the 1st year can be purchased at additional cost, however are not required for the system to continue functioning.
