This is to notify you of a Service Campaign launch regarding the inspection and replacement of the fuel tank filler hose on 2,446 Model Year (“MY”) 2019-2020 G-Class (463 platform) vehicles.  Affected VINs will be flagged in VMI as “OPEN” on December 04, 2020.
Background
Issue		Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain Model Year (“MY”) 2019-2020 G-Class vehicles (463 platform), the fuel tank filler hose may not be fitted properly, causing small amounts of fuel to leak when refueling. In this case, the vehicle may not meet emission requirements. Contact between potentially leaking fuel and hot component parts (e.g. exhaust system) is not possible, so a fire hazard can be ruled out. Nevertheless, the fuel tank filler hose should be inspected and replaced if necessary on the affected vehicles.
What We’re Doing		MBUSA will conduct a service campaign. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will inspect and replace (if necessary) the fuel tank filler hose on the affected vehicles. The estimated replacement rate is < 1%. Parts should only be ordered in the event a replacement is required.

SUBJECT:	Model G-Class (463 platform) Model Year 2019-2020 Check Fuel Tank Filler Hose

 

Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain Model Year (“MY”) 2019-2020 G-Class (463 platform) vehicles, the fuel tank filler hose may not be fitted properly, causing small amounts of fuel to leak when refueling. Check/test procedure A

 

1. Determine the vehicle’s mileage.

 

1. 1. If the mileage is less than 3000 miles: Carry out check/test procedure B.
   2. If the mileage is more than 3000 miles: End measure.

2. Detach right rear wheel and tire assembly.
   • For basic data, see 10-P-1102XG.

 

3. Check tank filler hose (A, Figure 1) above vehicle frame (B, Figure 1) for leaks.

4. Check vehicle frame (B, Figure 2) next to fuel tank (C, Figure 2) for discolorations caused by fuel.

 

5. Use a telescopic mirror to check the tank filler hose (A, Figure 2) all around for damp areas and discolorations caused by fuel.
   • The discolorations caused by fuel are the result of a material fault (D, Figure 2) in the tank filler hose (A, Figure 2).
