Wire Connected to Pre-Fuse Box Could Be Loose
An overheated wire can cause a fire and a sudden loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2022-2023 C 300 vehicles. The bolt securing the electrical wire to the pre-fuse box could be improperly tightened, causing the wire to overheat.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and rework the wiring harness, as necessary free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 13, 2024. Owner may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-877-496-3691.

Chronology :
In the course of 2022 MBAG received two individual and presumably unrelated field cases from outside the US. Both were related to a deviation on the tightening of an electrical connection in a pre-fuse box in the passenger compartment. However, neither the fault pattern was the same, nor were the external circumstances such as mileage, warning messages, etc. indicative of a common cause of defect or a common defect mechanism. Consequently, MBAG continued its field monitoring and throughout 2023, there was no additional case worldwide.
In February 2024, Mercedes-Benz AG identified an additional case outside the US, which showed similarities with the above-mentioned deviation. A subsequent detailed examination of this case identified that the vehicle in question had been subject to corrective measures targeting this specific tightening connection during its assembly process.
In April 2024, a comprehensive evaluation enabled the association of this corrective action with the two previously unattributable field incidents that also exhibited a torque deviation at the same tightening connection. The analyses showed that the vehicles had undergone rework on the screw connection of the prefuse box during production. Based on this determination, out of an abundance of caution, in May 2024, MBAG determined the potentially affected vehicles by reviewing the rework data from production.
On June 7, 2024, MBAG determined that a potential safety risk in the identified vehicle population cannot be ruled out and decided to conduct a recall.
MBAG can confirm there are no warranty claims, field or service reports related to this defect in the USA. MBAG is aware of no reports of property damage, fire, fatalities, or injury related to this defect in the US.
