Summary
Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2024 Mercedes-Benz
eSprinter vehicles. Due to a software error in the electronic stability program (ESP), the force required to stop the vehicle may increase, possibly requiring an extended distance to stop.
Remedy
Dealers will update the ESP control unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 1, 2024. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. DVUSA’s number for this recall is VS3EBOOSTF.

Chronology :
In late January 2024, MBAG identified an irregularity concerning the fallback level of the power brake assist system during routine development test drives. In response, the company launched comprehensive investigations throughout February and March 2024. These initial steps included additional testing aimed at replicating the observed behavior and identifying the precise failure mechanism.
Subsequently, during April 2024 M-AG conducted extensive analyses to ascertain the potential impact of the observed behavior. These analyses involved the identification of severity and scope of the failure scenario. In parallel with these efforts, MB AG proactively initiated corrective measures within its production processes and began identifying the potentially affected vehicle population on this basis.
On April 26, 2024, MBAG determined that a potential safety risk cannot be ruled out and decided to conduct a recall.
MBAG can confirm there are no warranty claims, field or service reports(such as the numbers of deaths and/or injuries) and other information related to this defect in the USA.

vehicles, has determined that on certain eSprinter (907 platform) vehicles, the fallback level of the power brake assist might not meet the force requirements.

Description of the Safety Risk : In this case in the event of an electrical fault the brake booster would
erroneously activate a limited fallback level. As a result, the brake pedal forces would be considerably higher compared to the intended fallback level. This might increase the risk of a crash in such a scenario.

Sprinter dealer will update the ESP control unit software.
Pursuant to 49 C.F.R. § 577.11(e), MBUSA does not plan to provide notice about pre-notice reimbursement to owners since none of the involved vehicles would have been previously subject to the condition described and all remain covered under the new vehicle warranty.
