June 22, 2020 NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V364000
Turbocharger Oil Feed and Return Lines May Leak
An oil leak in the presence of an ignition source such as hot engine or exhaust components can increase the risk of a fire.
NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V364
Manufacturer Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC.
Components ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
Potential Number of Units Affected 88
Summary
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2020 C300, E350, and GLC300 vehicles equipped with turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engines. The screws that retain the turbocharger oil feed and return lines may not have been properly tightened, possibly resulting in an oil leak.
Remedy
MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the turbocharger oil lines and tighten them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began August 17, 2020. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. MBUSA’s number for this recall is 2020070017.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
Check if your Mercedes-Benz has a Recall

This is to notify you of a Recall Campaign launch regarding the mounting of the screws on the turbocharger oil feed lines on 88 Model Year (“MY”) 2020 C-Class, E-Class, and GLC-Class (205, 213, 253 platform) vehicles. The recall campaign will be visible on the www.safercar.gov website and may generate questions from customers. Affected VINs will be flagged in VMI as “OPEN” on August 14, 2020.
Issue
Mercedes-Benz AG, (“MBAG”) the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz
vehicles, has determined that on certain MY 2020 C-Class, E-Class, and GLC-Class vehicles (205, 213, 253 platform) equipped with a 4-cylinder gasoline engine (M264), the screws that retain the turbocharger oil feed and return lines may not have been properly torqued during the assembly process. As a result, the correct mounting of the assembly cannot be confirmed. Should the mounting assembly not meet the torque specification, the turbocharger oil feed and the return lines could detach and leak oil, which could potentially contact hot engine components, potentially increasing the risk of a fire.
What We’re Doing
MBUSA will conduct a voluntary recall. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will check the mounting of the turbocharger oil feed and oil return line on the affected vehicles and tighten them, if necessary.
Parts
Parts are not required for repair. The recall remedy is available and repairs can be performed as necessary.
Customer Notification Timeline
Customer letters will be mailed approximately one week after the remedy becomes available.
Code M005 corresponds to “Vehicles with 4MATIC/ALL-WHEEL DRIVE”

Chronology :
In March 2020, MBAG launched initial investigations based on a finding during internal analysis for quality assurance in the production plant that indicated that the data documenting the correct mounting of the turbocharger oil feed and oil return lines might be missing. In April 2020, analyses were started to evaluate potential effects if the torque value at the screws for the oil lines at the turbocharger did not meet specification.
In parallel, the range of potentially affected vehicles was determined. On June 15, 2020, MBAG determined that a potential safety consequence cannot be ruled out. On June 23, MBAG filed a Safety Recall for the issue. Due to a documentation error at the factory, certain potentially affected vehicles might not have been identified in the recalled production range. On September 4, 2020, MBAG determined that a safety risk cannot be ruled out and decided to extend the recall population

Should the mounting assembly not meet the torque specification, the turbocharger oil feed and return lines could detach and leak oil, which could potentially contact hot engine components, increasing the risk of a fire. MBUSA will conduct a voluntary recall. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will check the mounting of the turbocharger oil feed and oil return line on the affected vehicles and rework it, if necessary. Prior to performing this Recall Campaign: • VMI must always be checked before performing campaigns to verify that the campaign is required on a specific vehicle. Always check for any other open campaigns, and perform accordingly. • Please review the entire Recall Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described. Please note that Recall Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator. Approximately 88 vehicles are involved. Order No. P-RC-2020070017 This bulletin has been created and maintained in accordance with MBUSA-SLP S423QH001, Document and Data Control, and MBUSA-SLP S424HH001, Control of Quality Records. 2 P-RC-2000XXXXXX Code M005 corresponds to “Vehicles with 4MATIC/ALL-WHEEL DRIVE” Procedure 1.
