Campaign No. 2020020016, March 2020
| TO: | ALL MERCEDES-BENZ |
| SUBJECT: | Model GT-Class vehicles (290 platform) Model Year 2019 Automatic transmission wiring harness |
Mercedes-Benz
AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz
vehicles, has determined that on certain MY19 GT-Class vehicles (290 platform), the mounting of a fixing clip on a wiring harness of the automatic transmission might not meet current production specifications. If the wiring harness fixation clip is not mounted according to current production specification, the wiring harness might chafe against the drive shaft and become damaged over time. This could lead to an interruption in the electrical wires and then a loss of propulsion, resulting in a stalling of the vehicle and an increased risk of crash. In addition, if a specific wire within the harness is damaged, the manual and automatic Park “P”-selection might not be available. However, the vehicle is still secured against unintended rolling with the electric parking brake. An authorized Mercedes-Benz
dealer will check the mounting of the fixing clip and the wiring harness on the affected vehicles and correct or replace them, if necessary.
Prior to performing this Recall Campaign:
- Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired. Always Check VMI for any open campaigns, and perform accordingly.
- VMI must always be checked before performing campaigns to verify that the campaign is required on a specific vehicle. Always check for any other open campaigns, and perform accordingly.
- Please review the entire Recall Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.
Please note that Recall Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.
Approximately 28 vehicles are involved.
Order No. P-RC-2020020016
This bulletin has been created and maintained in accordance with MBUSA-SLP S423QH001, Document and Data Control, and MBUSA-SLP S424HH001, Control of Quality Records.
Check/test procedure
- Lift vehicle with vehicle lift.
The area of the automatic transmission wiring harness to be checked (A, Figure 1) is located on the righthand side below the drive shaft to the front axle differential.
- Check whether mounting clip (B, Figure 2) on automatic transmission wiring harness was installed correctly. It is possible that the mounting clip is not engaged in the blank holder.
-
- Mounting clip on wiring harness not installed correctly: Carry out work procedure.
- Mounting clip on wiring harness installed correctly: End measure.
Work procedure
- Install mounting clip (C, Figure 3) on automatic transmission wiring harness correctly on the holder.
If the wiring harness is damaged, repair it accordingly.
The repair of wiring harnesses is described in AR54.18-P-0100-02A and AR00.19-P-0100-08A
