Summary

Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Metris vehicles. The affected vehicles left the reassembly plant without the final quality inspection of safety-relevant parts or bolt connections, resulting in possible unknown safety risks.

 

Remedy

DVUSA will notify owners, and dealers will complete the final quality inspection, free of charge. The recall began May 17, 2019. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. DVUSA’s number for this recall is VSX566ZP25.

This is to notify you of the Recall Campaign concerning the final vehicle inspection on approximately 7 MY18-19 Metris and Sprinter vehicles.  The recall campaign will be visible on the www.safercar.gov website and may generate questions from customers.  All affected VINs are flagged as “Open” in VMI.
Background
Issue	Daimler AG (DAG), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vans, has determined that certain VS30 Sprinter (platform 907), NCV3 Sprinter (platform 906) and VS20 Metris (platform 447) vehicles in the NAFTA market may not have had a final quality inspection after reassembly.   As a result, various rework steps may not have been carried out on the affected vehicles. Due to the non-completed final quality inspection, there is no documentation in relation to the completion of checks of safety-relevant parts or bolt connections. Accordingly, an increased risk of crash or injury cannot be ruled out.
What We’re Doing	The affected vehicles will be returned to the dealer for a comprehensive inspection and, if necessary, corrective action.

Given this notice, it is a violation of Federal Law for a dealer to sell or lease any new MY18-19 Metris and Sprinter vehicles in dealer inventory covered by this notification until the vehicle has been repaired. Loaner and demonstrator vehicles may continue to be driven, but must not be retailed until repaired. Additionally, given this notice, it is a violation of Federal Law for rental companies to rent new MY18-19 Metris and Sprinter vehicles covered by this notification until the vehicle has been repaired.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Daimler AG (DAG), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz Metris and Sprinter vehicles, has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in certain Model Year 2018 and 2019 Metris and Sprinter vehicles. Our records indicate that your vehicle is included in the affected population of vehicles.

What is the CONCERN?	DAG determined that certain Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vehicles (NCV3 and VS30) (platform 906 and 907) and Metris vehicles (VS20) (platform 447) in the NAFTA market left the manufacturing plant without the final quality inspection. As a result, various rework steps may not have been carried out at the plant on the affected vehicles, including the completion of checks of safety-relevant parts or bolt connections.  An unchecked safety-relevant part or a loose bolt connection in the vehicle could lead to an increased risk of crash or injury.
What will your DEALER DO?	An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will inspect  the affected vehicle  and, if necessary, perform corrective action. This service will be provided free of charge. We are dedicated to always delivering the best customer experience, and respect for your time is a top priority. While the minimum inspection and any necessary corrective action time can be up to several days, your dealer can provide you with a better estimate of the overall time for this service visit. As a matter of normal service process, an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will also check for other repair measures, which might be applicable to your vehicle, and this may increase the required working time.
