Incorrect Rear Seat Back Covering/FMVSS 225
If the upper anchorage point is covered, the child seat will not be able to be secured as intended in the center position of the rear seat, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Summary
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (Mercedes) is recalling certain 2018-2019 GLA-250 and GLA250 4MATIC vehicles. An incorrect rear seat back covering carpet could have been installed on the split-rear seat back. As a result, the child seat anchorage point (top tether) on the center positon of the rear seat may be covered and inaccessible for use. As such, these vehicles fail to comply to Federal Motor Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 225, “Child Restraint Anchorage Systems.”
Remedy
Mercedes will notify owners, and dealers will check the rear seat back covering carpet on the affected vehicles and replace it if necessary, free of charge. The recall began April 6, 2019. Owners may contact Mercedes-Benz’s customer service at 1-800-367-6372. Mercedes’ number for this recall is 2019030003.

The recall campaign will be visible on the www.safercar.gov website and may generate questions from customers. Affected VINs will be flagged in VMI as “OPEN” on March 22, 2019. | ||||

Issue | Daimler AG (“DAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain Model Year (“MY”) 2018-2019 GLA-class (156 platform) vehicles, an incorrect rear seat back covering (carpet) could have been installed on the split- rear seat back. As a result, the child seat anchorage point (top tether) on the center positon of the rear seat would be covered and inaccessible for use. The customer might not be able to attach a child restraint system with the top tether anchorage point on the center position of the rear seat as described in the Operator’s manuals. | |||
What We’re Doing | MBUSA will conduct a voluntary recall. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will check the rear seat back covers on the affected vehicles and replace them, if necessary. | |||

Given this notice, it is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to sell or lease any new MY18-19 GLA-Class vehicles in dealer inventory covered by this notification until the vehicle has been repaired. Once the remedy is available, the vehicles will be flagged as “OPEN” and Work Instructions will be available in Star TekInfo Once the repair is complete, the vehicle may be sold or leased.
Loaner and demonstrator vehicles may continue to be driven, but must not be retailed until repaired. Additionally, given this notice, it is a violation of Federal Law for car rental companies to rent new MY18-19 GLA-Class vehicles covered by this notification until the vehicle has been repaired. |

Daimler AG (“DAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain Model Year (“MY”) 2018-2019 GLA-class (156 platform) vehicles, an incorrect rear seat back covering (carpet) could have been installed on the split- rear seat back. As a result, the child seat anchorage point (top tether) on the center positon of the rear seat would be covered and inaccessible for use. The customer might not be able to attach a child restraint system with the top tether anchorage point on the center position of the rear seat as described in the Operator’s manuals. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will check the rear seat back covers on the affected vehicles and replace them, if necessary.
Prior to performing this Recall Campaign:
- Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.
- Please review the entire Recall Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.
Please note that Recall Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

- Remove left rear seat backrest.

- Install new left rear seat backrest panel (A, Figure 1).

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Daimler AG (“DAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has decided that certain Model Year (“MY”) 2018-2019 GLA-Class vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (“FMVSS”) number 225 (Child Restraint Anchorage Systems). Our records indicate that your vehicle is included in the affected population of vehicles.
What is the CONCERN? | DAG determined that on certain MY 2018-2019 GLA-class (156 platform) vehicles, an incorrect rear seat back covering (carpet) could have been installed on the split- rear seat back. As a result, the child seat anchorage point (top tether) on the center positon of the rear seat would be covered and inaccessible for use. If the upper anchorage point is covered, a child seat will not be able to be secured as intended in the center position of the rear seat, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash. |
