Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans, has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain Model Year 2021-2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vehicles. Our records indicate that your vehicle is included in the affected population of vehicles. What is the Concern?
On certain Sprinter vehicles, the fuel pump impeller might deform and contact the fuel pump housing, resulting in mechanical resistance to the impeller. This could cause the fuel pump to stop operating. As a result, the vehicle could lose drive power, which could increase the risk of a crash or injury. Before the fuel pump is switched off, the driver may be made aware of a malfunction by a warning message in the instrument cluster and might notice a roughly running engine.
Unfortunately, the parts to remedy this are not yet available.
We are working to obtain the necessary parts to replace the fuel pump as quickly as possible. As replacement parts become available, we will send you another letter asking you to take your vehicle to an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer to have the recall completed free of charge. A vehicle identification number (VIN)-based recall lookup tool on our website offers a search function that will indicate whether a vehicle has been subject to a safety recall, and whether that vehicle has had the free remedy performed.

What is the issue?
On certain Sprinter vehicles, the fuel pump impeller might deform and come into contact with the fuel pump housing, leading to a mechanical resistance. This could lead to a shutdown of the fuel pump and a loss of drive power, which could increase the risk of a crash or injury.
What will your Mercedes-Benz Dealer do?
An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will replace the fuel delivery module on the affected vehicles. This could take approximately 2 hours. This service will be provided free of charge. You may be asked for your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) which for your convenience is located above your name at the top of this letter.

Reimbursement to Customers for Repairs Performed Prior to Recall If you have already paid to have this recall condition corrected, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement. Replace Fuel Delivery Module (23V444) This is to notify you of an Initial Recall Campaign to replace fuel delivery module on approximately 11,191 Sprinter & 8,182 Metris vehicles ranging from MY 2021-2023. The recall campaign will be visible on the www.safercar.gov website and may generate questions from customers. All affected VINs will be flagged as “PENDING” in VMI and cannot be sold.
Background
Mercedes-Benz AG has determined that on certain Metris (447 platform) and Sprinter (907 platform) vehicles, the fuel pump impeller might not meet specifications in regards to material characteristics. As a consequence, Issue What We’re Doing Remedy the impeller might deform. It might therefore come into contact with the fuel pump housing, leading to a mechanical resistance. In some instances, this could lead to a shutdown of the fuel pump. As a result, the vehicle could lose propulsion, and increase the risk of a crash or injury.
MBUSA is conducting a voluntary recall. A Mercedes-Benz dealer will replace the fuel delivery module on the affected vehicles.

Replace Fuel Delivery Module Mercedes-Benz AG, the manufacturer of Metris vans, has determined that on certain Metris (447 platform) vehicles the fuel pump impeller might not meet specifications in regards to material characteristics. As a consequence, the impeller might deform and come into contact with the fuel pump housing, leading to a mechanical resistance. In some instances, this could lead to a shutdown of the fuel pump. As a result, the vehicle could lose propulsion, which could increase the risk of a crash or injury. As a precautionary measure, an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealers will check the fuel delivery module on the affected vehicles and replace it, if necessary. Prior to performing this Recall Campaign:
