Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has decided that a defect which relates to motor
vehicle safety exists in certa in model year 2022-2023 GLE and GLS vehicles. Our records indicate that your vehicle is
included in the affected population.
What is the issue?
The rear door window trim bars might not be properly secured, and may detach while driving. Detached trim
bars may cause a road hazard which could increase the risk of a crash or injury.
What wm your Mercedes-Benz Dealership do?
An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership will inspect and secure the trim bars on the rear door windows, if
necessary. ‘ii’hos vehicle repair wm be provided at no cost to you. While the minimum repair t ime can be less
than 1 hour, your dealership can provide you with a better estimate of the overa ll t ime for th is service visit As
a matter of normal service process, the authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership will also check for other repa ir
measures that might be applicable to your vehicle, which may increase the required working t ime. You will not
be charged for other services or repa irs unless so requested.

Background
Issue
Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined
that on certain Model Year (“MY”) 2022-2023 GLE and GLS (167 and X167 platform) vehicles,
the fastening of the rear door window trim bars might not meet current production
specifications. Under certain driving conditions, the trim bar might separate from the vehicle
while driving. This might pose a risk of injury for other road users and increase the risk of a
crash.
What We’re Doing
MBUSA will conduct a voluntary recall. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership will inspect
the installation of the trim bars on the rear door windows and rework them, if necessary.
Parts The remedy is available and can be performed.

Given this notice, it is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to sell or lease any new vehicles in dealer inventory covered
by this notification until the vehicle has been repaired. Once the remedy is available, the vehicles will be flagged as
“OPEN” and Work Instructions will be available in NetStar VMI and Xentry Portal. Once the repair is complete, the vehicle
may be sold or leased.
Loaner and demonstrator vehicles may continue to be driven, but must not be retailed until repaired. As a matter of
normal service process, please check for other repair measures which might be applicable to the vehicle(s).
Additionally, given this notice, it is a violation of Federal Law for car rental companies to rent vehicles covered by this
notification until the vehicle has been repaired.

on certain Model Year (“MY”) 2022-2023 GLE and GLS (167 and X167 platform) vehicles, the
fastening of the rear door window trim bars might not meet current production specifications. Under
certain driving conditions, the trim bar might separate from the vehicle while driving. This might
pose a risk of injury for other road users and increase the risk of a crash. An authorized Mercedes-
Benz dealership will inspect the installation of the trim bars on the rear door windows and rework
them, if necessary.
Prior to performing this Campaign:
 VMI must always be checked before performing campaigns to verify that the campaign is
required on a specific vehicle. Always check for any other open campaigns, and perform
accordingly.
 Please review the entire Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as
described.

Inspect Mounting of Rear Door Trim Bar
Inspect/test procedure A
1. Lower side window on the right and left rear doors.
2. Check whether right and left window dividers (A, Figure 1) are seated tightly.
To do so, grasp the window divider in the upper area with your hand (Figure 1) and support it with your thumb on
the fixed window (see Figure 2).
Then pull the window divider outward carefully (approx. 100 N / 22.5lbs of force) to check whether it is seated tightly.
The window divider must not work loose.
Ensure that the window divider is not jammed under the trim bar on the window frame
(B, Figure 2). This could cause a test error with regard to the holding ability of the trim element on the window divider. A
gap of 1 mm from the window divider (A) to the window frame (B) is normal.

In March 2021, MBAG began an initial investigation of field reports from GLE and GLS vehicles describing trim bars that were loose or had detached from a vehicle during driving. These subject vehicles were outside of the prior recall measures 22V680.
In September 2022, during the course of its worldwide product monitoring, MBAG identified isolated field reports from the US of trim bars that were loose or had detached from a vehicle during driving.
MBAG immediately began to investigate these field reports and the corresponding vehicle production records. Additionally, MBAG undertook a thorough review of the history of each vehicle identified in the field reports, including any plant rework, prior recall or workshop visits that involved issues in the affected area. MBAG completed these analyses in late 2022. The results were inconclusive in determining a failure mechanism.
MBAG continued its investigation and launched an additional review of the production and its rework processes related to the trim bar on GLE and GLS vehicles.
In January 2023, MBAG conducted an analysis to identify potentially affected vehicles and determined that no specific GLE and GLS vehicles could be excluded.

trim bar to the vehicle in production, designed to eliminate potential incorrect installation of the trim bars. On March 10, 2023, MBAG determined that a potential safety risk cannot be ruled out and decided to extend the recall population.
MBAG is currently aware of 11 claims related to this phenomenon (including warranty claims, field reports, and service reports) received in the US from February 2, 2022 to March 10, 2023. MBAG is not aware of any claims of crashes, injuries, or other third party damage as a result of this occurrence.

bars on the rear door windows and rework them, if necessary.

In March 2021, MBAG began an initial investigation of field reports from GLE and GLS vehicles describing trim bars that were loose or had detached from a vehicle during driving. These subject vehicles were outside of the prior recall measures 22V680.
In September 2022, during the course of its worldwide product monitoring, MBAG identified isolated field reports from the US of trim bars that were loose or had detached from a vehicle during driving.
MBAG immediately began to investigate these field reports and the corresponding vehicle production records. Additionally, MBAG undertook a thorough review of the history of each vehicle identified in the field reports, including any plant rework, prior recall or workshop visits that involved issues in the affected area. MBAG completed these analyses in late 2022. The results were inconclusive in determining a failure mechanism.
MBAG continued its investigation and launched an additional review of the production and its rework processes related to the trim bar on GLE and GLS vehicles.
In January 2023, MBAG conducted an analysis to identify potentially affected vehicles and determined that no specific GLE and GLS vehicles could be excluded.

trim bar to the vehicle in production, designed to eliminate potential incorrect installation of the trim bars. On March 10, 2023, MBAG determined that a potential safety risk cannot be ruled out and decided to extend the recall population.
MBAG is currently aware of 11 claims related to this phenomenon (including warranty claims, field reports, and service reports) received in the US from February 2, 2022 to March 10, 2023. MBAG is not aware of any claims of crashes, injuries, or other third party damage as a result of this occurrence.

Description of Remedy Program : An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will check the installation of the trim
bars on the rear door windows and rework them, if necessary.
Pursuant to 49 C.F.R. § 577.11(e), MBUSA does not plan to provide notice about pre-notice reimbursement to owners since none of the involved vehicles would have been previously subject to the condition described and all remain covered under the new vehicle warranty.
