Internal Campaign No. : Campaign Desc. : Modify Interior Blower Motor Fuse Layout 2023020004 PDGSIGEBL This is to notify you of an Initial Recall Campaign to modify the interior blower motor fuse layout on approximately 49,179 MY 2019-2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans. The recall campaign will be visible on the www.safercar.gov website and may generate questions from customers. All affected VINs will be flagged as “PENDING” in VMI and cannot be sold. Background Issue Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain Sprinter (907 platform) vehicles, the fuse layout of the interior blower motor might not meet the requirements for prolonged operation at the highest blower setting. Ambient and assembly space temperatures as well as prolonged usage, could cause the wiring harness to overheat. Consequently, a risk of fire during operation and a risk of injury cannot be ruled out. What We’re Doing As a precautionary measure, an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will replace the fuse and its supply line, as well as relocate the fuse for the interior blower within the fuse box. In the interim, to prevent the possibility of a thermal event, the front blower should only be operated in manual (not automatic) mode whenever the engine is on. Do not use the maximum blower or lowest/highest temperature settings. Parts The remedy is not available at this time. An additional notification will be sent once the remedy is available. Loaner and demonstrator vehicles may continue to be driven, but must not be retailed until repaired. Additionally, given this notice, it is a violation of Federal Law for rental companies to rent new vehicles covered by this notification until the vehicle has been repaired.
