July 7, 2022 NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 22V482000
Incorrect Tire Load Weight Capacity/FMVSS 110
An overloaded vehicle may cause tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.
NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V482
Manufacturer Daimler Vans USA, LLC
Components TIRES
Potential Number of Units Affected 24,403
Summary
Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2016-2018 Mercedes-Benz Metris vans. The value for the maximum combined load weight capacity of the tires is incorrect. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, “Tire and Loading Information.”
Remedy
Dealers will install corrected labels on the B-pillar and fuel filler door. Dealers will also inspect and replace incorrect tires, as necessary. All repairs will be performed free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed on September 1, 2022. A second notice will be sent once remedy parts become available. Owners may contact DVUSA at 1-877-762-8267. DVUSA’s number for this recall is VS2LASTRE.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Replace Tire Loading Information Label and Inspect Tires
This is to notify you of an initial Recall Campaign to replace tire loading information label and inspect the tires on approximately 24,229 MY 2016-2019 Mercedes-Benz Metris vans. The recall campaign will be visible on the www.safercar.gov website and may generate questions from customers. All affected VINs will be flagged as “PENDING” in VMI and cannot be sold.
Issue
Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz
vans, has determined that on certain Mercedes-Benz
Metris vehicles (Platform 447) the sum of the maximum load ratings of the tires may exceed the permissible maximum axle load rating pursuant to FMVSS 110, S4.2.2.2. Overloading over time could cause excessive tire wear and in a worst case scenario, could lead to tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.
What We’re Doing
MBUSA is conducting a voluntary recall. An authorized Mercedes-Benz Metris dealer will replace the tire information label on the B-pillar and fuel filler door. Dealers will also check the tires on the vehicle to verify that they are the correctly specified tires. If the tires on the vehicle are of a lower rating than what is specified in the Operator’s Manual, the tires will be replaced with new tires having the specified load rating. This repair will be done free of charge.
Parts
The current remedy is not available at this time. An additional notification will be sent once the remedy is available.
Customer Notification Timeline
An owner notification letter has been mailed September 1st, 2022.
Chronology :
The design of the VS20 NAFTA tires was carried out jointly with tire supplier Continental according to European Tire and Rim Technical Organization (“ETRTO”) specifications. Due to an oversight, a 1.10 reduction on each tire’s maximum load rating was not applied before the maximum load rating was set for vans distributed in the United States.
