Check Headlight Electrical Connections
This is to notify you of the Recall Campaign Launch to check the headlight electrical connections on 129 Model Year (“MY”) 2021 GLC-Class (253 platform) vehicles. The recall campaign will be visible on the www.safercar.gov website and may generate questions from customers.
Affected VINs will be flagged in VMI as “OPEN” on May 20, 2022.
Issue
Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz
vehicles, has determined that on certain Model Year (“MY”) 2021 GLC-Class (253 platform) vehicles, the electrical connection to the headlights might not be watertight. In the event of moisture ingress into the electrical connection, the sealing integrity of the connection might be impaired. In this case, a failure of the headlights cannot be ruled out which could increase the risk of a crash.
What We’re Doing
An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will check the sealing plugs on the headlight electrical connections on the affected vehicles and replace, if necessary.
Parts
The remedy is available and can be performed. The replacement rate is 2%.

Chronology :
In June 2021, MBAG started the investigation due to moisture being detected in a headlamp during a tightness test of a vehicle at the vehicle plant. Further analysis indicated that sealing plugs in a connector housing were not correctly installed. As a precautionary measure, a plant action was released to check all available vehicles in the plant. Furthermore, all potentially affected wiring harnesses in stock were inspected. In parallel, a root cause analysis was started in cooperation with the supplier to identify any possible deviation along with determining the potentially affected production period. During execution of the plant action, several thousand vehicles were checked. As a result, in a few vehicles sealing plugs were not correctly installed. Therefore, the analysis of potential impacts began in the end of October 2021. At the beginning of January 2022, the range of potentially affected wiring harnesses was evaluated. Subsequently, it was possible to identify potentially affected vehicles. Further investigations were conducted in February 2022 to determine if the issue may affect both headlamps on the vehicle at the same time. On April 8, 2022, MBAG determined that a potential safety risk cannot be ruled out and decided to conduct a recall.
