Brake Fluid Reservoir Mounted Incorrectly
A detached brake fluid reservoir can leak brake fluid, increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary
Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2016-2021 Mercedes-Benz Metris vehicles. The brake fluid reservoir may be incorrectly mounted, which can allow it to detach.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and repair the brake fluid reservoir mounting, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 2, 2022. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. DVUSA’s number for this recall is VS2BE42BRE.

Check Brake Fluid Reservoir Mounting
This is to notify you of a pending Recall Campaign to check the brake fluid reservoir mounting on approximately 28,732 MY16-22 Mercedes-Benz Metris vans. The recall campaign will be visible on the www.safercar.gov website and may generate questions from customers. All affected VINs will be flagged as “PENDING” in VMI and cannot be sold.
Issue
Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz
vans, has determined that on certain Model Year 2016 – 2021 Mercedes-Benz
VS20 Metris vehicles (platform 447), the brake fluid reservoir might have been incorrectly mounted. As a consequence, the brake fluid reservoir could possibly detach from its mounting, potentially causing the reservoir to leak. A deterioration of braking performance due to loss of brake fluid cannot be ruled out which could increase the risk of a crash.
What We’re Doing
MBUSA is conducting a voluntary recall. An authorized Mercedes-Benz Metris dealer will check the brake fluid reservoir for proper mounting and ensure the correct installation.

Parts are not yet available
Given this notice, it is a violation of Federal Law for a dealer to sell or lease any new Metris vehicles in dealer inventory covered by this notification until the vehicle has been repaired.
Loaner and demonstrator vehicles may continue to be driven, but must not be retailed until repaired.
Additionally, given this notice, it is a violation of Federal Law for rental companies to rent new Metris vehicles covered by this notification until the vehicle has been repaired.

AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Metris vans, has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain Model Year (“MY”) 2016-2021 Mercedes-Benz
Metris vehicles. Our records indicate that your vehicle is included in the affected population of vehicles. MBAG has determined that on certain MY 2016 – 2021 Mercedes-Benz
Metris vehicles, the brake fluid reservoir might have been incorrectly mounted. As a consequence, the brake fluid reservoir could possibly detach from its mounting, potentially causing the reservoir to leak. A deterioration of braking performance may result due to loss of brake fluid, which could increase the risk of a crash. An authorized Mercedes-Benz
Metris dealer will check the brake fluid reservoir for proper mounting and ensure the correct installation. Unfortunately, the parts to remedy this issue are currently not yet available. We are working to obtain the necessary parts to correct this condition as quickly as possible. As the parts become available, we will send you another letter asking you to take your vehicle to an authorized Mercedes-Benz
