Issue
Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz
vehicles, has determined that on certain Model Year (“MY”) 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series (190 platform) vehicles, the length of the wiring harness for the front wheel speed sensors might not meet current production specifications. In certain driving maneuvers such as maximum steering input or full compression/extension of the suspension, damage to the wheel speed sensor wiring harness could occur due to tensile loading. In this case, vehicle dynamic control system functions might be impaired, which could increase the risk of a crash.
What We’re Doing
MBUSA will conduct a voluntary recall. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will replace the wiring harness for the front wheel speed sensors on the affected vehicles.
Parts
The remedy is available and can be performed.
Given this notice, it is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to sell or lease any new MY21 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series vehicles in dealer inventory covered by this notification until the vehicle has been repaired. Once the remedy is available, the vehicles will be flagged as “OPEN” and Work Instructions will be available in Xentry. Once the repair is complete the vehicle may be sold or leased
Loaner and demonstrator vehicles may continue to be driven, but must not be retailed until repaired. As a matter of normal service process, please check for other repair measures which might be applicable to the vehicle(s).
Additionally, given this notice, it is a violation of Federal Law for car rental companies to rent new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series vehicles covered by this notification until the vehicle has been repaired.

Chronology :
In May 2021, MBAG initiated initial investigations based on individual field reports from jurisdictions outside of the USA. Those reports described instances of various different instrument cluster messages pertaining to the vehicle dynamic control system functions. No third party damages or personal injuries were reported.
MBAG requested and obtained relevant parts of affected vehicles for further analysis. These parts were analyzed in cooperation with the suppliers of the sensors and the wiring harness. In mid-July, MBAG’s investigation detected indications of damage to the wiring harness. MBAG then performed pull tests in order to identify potentially affected batches of the wiring harness. Ultimately, the issue could not be limited to certain production batches.
On August 10, 2021 a single field case was reported in the USA. Inspection by the servicing dealer determined that there were no warrantable claims on the vehicle related to this defect report.
In September 2021, MBAG conducted analyses using adjusted wiring harnesses. Those analyses indicated that the length of the wiring harness had an influence on the vehicle dynamic control system functions. In October 2021, further investigations were performed to assess conditions that are necessary for the observed failure.
In general, no associated personal injuries or third party damages have been reported in connection with the wiring harness deviation.
On January 21, 2022, MBAG determined that a potential safety risk cannot be ruled out and decided to conduct a recall.

KG Address : Raitestrasse 8 D-71272 Renningen Foreign States Country : Germany Chronology : In May 2021, MBAG initiated initial investigations based on individual field reports from jurisdictions outside of the USA. In August 2021, a single field case was reported in the USA. In September 2021, MBAG conducted analyses using adjusted wiring harnesses. Those analyses indicated that the length of the wiring harness had an influence on the vehicle dynamic control system functions. In October 2021, further investigations were performed to assess conditions that are necessary for the observed failure. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-042 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 In general, no associated personal injuries or third party damages have been reported in connection with the wiring harness deviation. On January 21, 2022, MBAG determined that a potential safety risk cannot be ruled out and decided to conduct a recall. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will replace the wiring harness of the front wheel speed sensor on the affected vehicles. Pursuant to 49 C.F.R. § 577.11(e), MBUSA does not plan to provide notice about pre-notice reimbursement to owners since none of the involved vehicles would have been previously subject to the condition described and all remain covered under the new vehicle warranty.
