SUBJECT:	Model CLA-Class (118 platform) Model Year 2021 Check Spare Wheel Well for Moisture

Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain MY 2021 CLA-Class (118 platform) vehicles, the left rear section under the spare wheel well may not correspond to current specifications and may have developed a crack. This might allow water to enter into the spare wheel well. MBUSA will conduct a service campaign. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will check the spare wheel well for moisture on the affected vehicles and rework the respective area, if necessary.

Prior to performing this Campaign:

VMI must always be checked before performing campaigns to verify that the campaign is required on a specific vehicle. Always check for any other open campaigns, and perform accordingly.
Please review the entire Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.

Approximately 200 vehicles are affected.

Check/test procedure

Open trunk lid

Lift cover of spare wheel well.

Check area of spare wheel well (A, Figure 1) for moisture/water.

1. Moisture/water present in spare wheel well: Carry out work procedure.
2. Moisture/water not present in spare wheel well: End measure.

Work procedure

Remove rear bumper.

For basic data, see AR88.20-P-2200MFA.

Remove left rear radar sensor mount (B, Figure 2).

Drill off crack on left in rear-end center section (Figure 3), weld shut, blend paint, and apply a cavity protection agent.

Assemble in reverse order.
