Summary
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2021 C-Class, E-Class, E-Class Coupe and Convertible, GLC, CLS, AMG GT 4-door Coupe and G-Class vehicles. Please refer to MBUSA’s recall report for specific vehicle model details. A faulty electrical contact within the seat position switch may prevent the driver and passenger air bags and seat belt force limiters from properly activating during a crash.
Remedy
MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the seat position switches, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed May 21, 2021. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. MBUSA’s number for this recall is 2021040016.

Work procedure
The field measure is performed on both front seats.
The Hall sensor is located on the inner side of the seat adjustment unit.
- Release front seat and remove rear protective caps (if present) from seat rails of seat adjustment unit.
For basic data of models 205.2/3/4, 213, 238, and 253, see AR91.10-P-1000LW.
For basic data of model 205.4, see AR91.10-P-1000LWR.
For basic data of models 257 and 290, see AR91.10-P-1000FR.
For basic data of model 463, see AR91.10-P-1000XG.
- Place suitable bases behind the seat adjustment unit to protect the floor covering against damage/pressure marks caused by the seat rails of the seat adjustment unit while tilting the front seat.
- Switch off ignition.
- Tilt front seat back with electric lines connected.
- Disconnect electrical connector (B, Figure 1) at Hall sensor (A, Figure 1).
- Remove screw (C, Figure 2) at Hall sensor (A, Figure 2).
Hall sensor screw to seat adjustment unit: 3.5 Nm.
- Unclip Hall sensor (A, Figure 2) at seat adjustment unit.
- Assemble in reverse order.

Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in
certain Model Year (“MY”) 2021 C-Class, CLS-Class, E-Class, G-Class, GLC-Class, and GT-Class vehicles. Our records indicate that your vehicle is
included in the affected population of vehicles.
What is the CONCERN? On certain MY 2021 C-Class, CLS-Class, E-Class, G-Class, GLC-Class, and GT-Class vehicles, the electrical contact
inside the seat position switch of the front seats might not meet current production specifications. In this case,
the seat position switch signal could be missing or incorrect, which could result in the driver and passenger airbag
as well as the seatbelt force limiter not activating properly in the event of a crash. Thus, the risk of an injury would
be increased.
What will your DEALER DO? An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will replace the seat position switches on the affected vehicles. This service
will be provided free of charge. We are dedicated to always delivering the best customer experience, and respect
