Summary
Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Mercedes Benz
Sprinter vehicles equipped with an optional electric sliding door. The auxiliary lock on the sliding door may be the incorrect type for an electric sliding door. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 226, “Ejection Mitigation.”
Remedy
DVUSA will notify owners, and dealers will convert the sliding door from electric to manual function, free of charge. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. DVUSA’s number for this recall is VS3SCHIEBT.

| Issue | Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vans, has determined that certain Sprinter vehicles from platform 907 (VS30) that are equipped with an optional electric sliding door may have been manufactured with an auxiliary lock on the sliding door that was not specified for use in connection with an electric sliding door. Affected vehicles that have this auxiliary lock may show an increased outward displacement of the sliding door in case of a crash, which could increase the risk of injuries for vehicle occupants in case of a crash. As a result, the auxiliary locks do not comply with FMVSS 226. | ||
| What We’re Doing | DVUSA will conduct a voluntary recall campaign. An authorized Mercedes-Benz Sprinter dealer will convert the electric sliding function of the sliding door into a manual function for which the installed auxiliary lock is specified. | ||

| Given this notice, it is a violation of Federal Law for a dealer to sell or lease any new Sprinter vehicles in dealer inventory covered by this notification until the vehicle has been repaired.
Loaner and demonstrator vehicles may continue to be driven, but must not be retailed until repaired. Additionally, given this notice, it is a violation of Federal Law for rental companies to rent new Sprinter vehicles covered by this notification until the vehicle has been repaired. | |||

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Sprinter vans, has decided that a vehicle failed to comply with FMVSS 226
“Ejection Mitigation” in certain Model Year 2019 – 2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vehicles. Our records indicate that your vehicle is
included in the affected population of vehicles.
What is the concern?
Certain Model Year 2019-2020 Sprinter vehicles that are equipped with an optional electric sliding door may have been
manufactured with an auxiliary lock on the sliding door that was not specified for use with an electric sliding door.
Affected vehicles that have this auxiliary lock might show an increased outward displacement of the sliding door in the
event of a crash, which could increase the risk of injuries for vehicle occupants. As a result, the auxiliary locks may not
comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 226.
MBAG is currently developing a technical remedy and therefore, the parts to remedy this issue are currently
not yet available. We are working to obtain the necessary parts to correct this condition as quickly as possible. As
parts become available, we will send you another letter asking you to take your vehicle to an authorized Mercedes-Benz
dealer to have the recall completed free of charge.
