Service Campaign Launch Notification April 8, 2020
Campaign No. : Campaign Desc. : Fuel Line Coating
2020030015 20P4790204
This is to notify you of the Service Campaign Launch regarding the fuel line coating in 518 Model Year (“MY”) 2019 G-Class (463 platform) vehicles with 8-cylinder gasoline engine. Affected VINs will be visible and flagged in VMI as “OPEN” on April 8, 2020.
Background
Issue Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain Model Year (“MY”) 2019 G-Class vehicles (463 platform), the polyamide coating on the fuel line near the quick connector might not meet current production specifications. In this case, fuel might wick under the coating, potentially leading to minor fuel weeping or droplet formation at the quick connector. However, the risk of a fire or crash resulting from this issue has been ruled out.
What We’re Doing MBUSA will conduct a service campaign.  An  authorized  Mercedes-Benz  dealer  will  check  the  fuel line on the affected vehicles and replace it if necessary. The replacement rate for the SC is only 2% of the total affected vehicles. Please order as needed and do not overstock. MBUSA will be monitoring all parts orders and quantities.
Parts Parts are available and can be ordered as necessary.

Prior to performing this Campaign:

  • VMI must always be checked before performing campaigns to verify that the campaign is required on a specific vehicle. Always check for any other open campaigns, and perform accordingly.
  • Please review the entire Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.

Approximately 518 vehicle is affected.

Order No. P-SC-2020030015

Check/test procedure

  1. Lift vehicle with the drive-on lifting platform (vehicle inspection for example).

Leave the ignition switched on!

  1. Check leak tightness of the connector coupling (A, figure 1) of the fuel line (B, figure 1).

If the connector coupling (A, figure 1) is leaky, fuel will be visible “sweating” or “forming droplets”.

Figure 1

a. Connector coupling leaky: Perform Work procedure.

b. Connector coupling not leaky: End measure.

Work procedure

  1. Switch off ignition.
  1. Remove lower center engine compartment lining (AR61.20-P-11 OSXG).
  1. Release and disconnect connector coupling (A, figure 2) of the fuel line (B, figure 2).

Danger: AS47.00-Z-0001-01A risk of explosion due to ignition, risk of poisoning due to inhalation of fuel as well as risk of injury due to skin contact with fuel.

Wear protective gloves and safety glasses.
Cover connector coupling before disconnection with a rag.

Collect leaking fuel in a suitable vessel.

Figure 2

  1. Disconnect threaded connection (C, figure 3) of the fuel line (B, figure 3).
    • Threaded connection of fuel line 24 Nm (+/- 4 Nm).

Note on calculation of the tightening torque when using tool inserts and attachments with varying effective lengths (AH00.00-P-0015-01CW).

Figure 3

  1. Clip out and remove the fuel line (B, figure 4).
    • Do not damage the mounting clips of the fuel line.

[I] Installation: Ensure that no dirt gets into the fuel line.
