Chronology :
In mid-2023, during a standard quality audit in the production plant, MBAG became aware of a data mismatch between the refrigerant that was filled into a certain vehicle as well as the intended and documented refrigerant. As a consequence, thorough analyses were initiated to identify the consequences of the data mismatch. In August 2023, those analyses concluded that certain vehicles might have been filled with an incorrect refrigerant and initiated an investigation to determine potentially affected vehicles and consequences. Generally, two refrigerant variants are in use, while depending on the country of destination, a specific variant of refrigerant must be filled into the vehicles. Until the end of 2023, MBAG reviewed the production data of all suspect vehicles and compared the production data of all vehicles with the certified and intended refrigerant variant. On this basis, the population of potentially affected vehicles was identified.
Since potential consequences vary with the type of incorrect refrigerant filled, this information was necessary to determine potential consequences from January 2024 onwards. On February 23, 2024, MBAG determined that a potential safety risk cannot be ruled out and decided to conduct a recall.

Country : NR Chronology :
The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Part 573 Safety Recall Report 24V-170
