Replace Stationary Windows
This is to notify you of the Recall Campaign Launch to replace the stationary windows on 7 Model Year (“MY”) 2024 GLC (254 platform) vehicles. The recall campaign will be visible on the www.NHTSA.gov website and may generate questions from customers. Affected VINs will be flagged in VMI as “OPEN” on November 10, 2023.
Issue
Mercedes-Benz
AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz
vehicles, has determined that on certain Model Year (“MY”) 2024 GLC (254 platform) vehicles, the stationary front, rear and side window bonding might not meet specifications. Insufficient adhesion might lead to a separation of the windows from the vehicle, which could increase the risk of a crash for following traffic. In addition, if a crash resulting in frontal passenger airbag deployment were to occur, the airbag might not be supported by the windshield as intended, which could increase the risk of injury for the front passenger.
What We’re Doing
MBUSA will conduct a voluntary recall. An authorized Mercedes-Benz
dealer will replace the stationary windows on the affected vehicles.
Parts
The remedy is available and can be performed.
Given this notice, it is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to sell or lease any new vehicles in dealer inventory covered by this notification until the vehicle has been repaired. Once the remedy is available, the vehicles will be flagged as “OPEN” and Work Instructions will be available in NetStar VMI and Xentry Portal. Once the repair is complete, the vehicle may be sold or leased.
Loaner and demonstrator vehicles may continue to be driven, but must not be retailed until repaired. As a matter of normal service process, please check for other repair measures which might be applicable to the vehicle(s).
Additionally, given this notice, it is a violation of Federal Law for car rental companies to rent new vehicles covered by this notification until the vehicle has been repaired.
Customer Notification Timeline
Customer letters will be mailed on or before January 2, 2024.

Chronology :
Mid-September 2023, MBAG became aware of an irregularity in the production process, during which the adhesive on one window had unexpected material characteristics. As an immediate reaction, MBAG analyzed the adhesive and concluded that the batch delivered did not fulfil specifications. Up until beginning of October, 2023, MBAG and its supplier identified the barrel labelling process as the root cause and could therefore determine the affected batch and subsequently identify the potentially affected vehicle population. In parallel,
MBAG started various analyses in order to determine the characteristics of the adhesive which had erroneously been filled into the affected barrels. On this basis, further investigations were performed to check the consequences of the issue.
On October 27, 2023, MBAG determined that a potential safety risk cannot be ruled out and decided to conduct a recall.
MBAG can confirm there are no warranty claims, field or service reports related to this defect in the USA.
