Summary
Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2022 Mercedes-Benz
Sprinter vehicles equipped with electrically adjustable front swivel-seats. The wiring harnesses for the swivel-seats may have been incorrectly installed and may become damaged, which can cause the front side air bags not to deploy as intended.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and reattach the wiring harnesses, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 17, 2023. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. DVUSA’s number for this recall is 5491810.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Swivel Seat Wire Harness Routing
This is to notify you of the Recall Campaign Launch to reroute the swivel seat wire harness on approximately 350 MY 2022 Mercedes-Benz
Sprinter vans. The recall campaign will be visible on the www.safercar.gov website and may generate questions from customers.
All affected VINs will be flagged “OPEN” in VMI and CANNOT BE SOLD until the recall has been remedied.
Issue
Mercedes-Benz
AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz
Sprinter vehicles, has determined that on certain Sprinter (907 platform) vehicles equipped with electrically adjustable front swivel-seats, the electrical wiring harness might become damaged over time when a front swivel seat is adjusted. In the event of a damaged wiring harness, it cannot be ruled out that the function of the side airbag installed in the seat back might be impaired. This could increase the risk of injury.
What We’re Doing
MBUSA will conduct a voluntary recall. As a precautionary measure, an authorized Mercedes-Benz
dealership will inspect the installation of the wiring harness and will attach it properly.
Remedy
Remedy is available
Given this notice, it is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to sell or lease any new vehicles in dealer inventory covered by this notification until the vehicle has been repaired.
Loaner and demonstrator vehicles may continue to be driven, but must not be retailed until repaired.
Additionally, given this notice, it is a violation of Federal Law for rental companies to rent new vehicles covered by this notification until the vehicle has been repaired.

Chronology :
At the end of February 2022, based on an internal Mercedes-Benz
audit at a production plant, MBAG found that in certain Sprinter (907 platform) vehicles with both electrically adjustable front seats and a swivel seat frame, the wiring harness on the rotary frame was not routed with the necessary length to the seat adjustment motor.
As a result, the seat adjustment motor might contact the retaining clip of the electrical wiring harness and
might damage the electrical wiring harness over time when a front swivel seat is adjusted.
All vehicles that had not been released from the plant were checked and reworked as needed to meet the routing specification of the wiring harness.
Also at that time, MBAG implemented adjustments in the production process to ensure the wiring harness was installed according to the specification.
In May 2022, MBAG introduced a new mounting clip for the electrical wiring harness in production to eliminate the risk of wiring damage due to contact with the seat adjustment motor.
Though MBAG received no field reports related to damage to the wiring harness, beginning in July 2022 the company initiated an evaluation of the potential consequences of damage to the wiring harness during vehicle operation. When that analysis identified potential effects on side airbag functioning, the company conducted further investigations and tests in order to identify a potential root cause, failure mechanism and potential impact on airbag performance.
Based on the above investigations and analyses, in late 2022 and early 2023 MBAG identified the population of vehicles potentially affected by damage to the wiring harness.
On February 10, 2023, MBAG determined that a potential safety risk cannot be ruled out and decided to conduct a recall.
MBAG is aware of no warranty claims, field or service reports, or reports of property damage, death or injury related to this defect.

This B800 scanner reads & clears SRS airbag fault codes, turns off the warning light, and saves you a costly dealer visit. Confirmed compatible with: E36, E46 (EXCEPT 2001 330i), E34, E38, E39, Z3, and X5 (E53). NOT compatible with any BMW built before 1994 or after 2003.
- ✔️【Important: Two Different Connection Ports – Read Before Use】 To avoid “not working” issues, please note: For 1994–2000 BMWs (most E36, E34, Z3, early E39), the SRS diagnostic port is a round 20-pin connector under the hood. You MUST use the included 16-pin to 20-pin adapter cable. For 2000–2003 models (late E46, E39, X5), use the standard OBD-II port inside the cabin. Incorrect connection is the #1 reason for “incompatibility” reports.

Description of the Cause : Due to a deviation in the development process, the wiring harness on the rotary seat frame may have been routed with an insufficient length to the seat adjustment motor. Identification of Any Warning
that can Occur : Before the issue occurs, the driver will not receive a warning due to the nature of the failure mechanism.
When the issue occurs, the driver might notice the SRS indicator lamp
illuminated in the instrument cluster.
As a result, the seat adjustment motor might contact the retaining clip of the electrical wiring harness and might damage the electrical wiring harness over time when a front swivel seat is adjusted.
The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-101

On February 10, 2023, MBAG determined that a potential safety risk cannot be ruled out and decided to conduct a recall.
MBAG is aware of no warranty claims, field or service reports, or reports of property damage, death or injury related to this defect.
Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : As a precautionary measure, an authorized Mercedes-Benz
dealership will
inspect the installation of the wiring harness and will attach it properly. If customer has already paid to have this recall condition corrected, they may be eligible to receive reimbursement. Requests for reimbursement may include parts, labor, fees and taxes. Reimbursement may be limited to the amount the repair would have cost if completed by an authorized Sprinter dealer. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :
Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Properly attach wiring harness to the seat base. A change in the routing of the electrical wiring harness ensures that this issue can no longer occur from May 5,2022 onwards. Recall Schedule :
Description of Recall Schedule : Dealers will be notified of the pending voluntary recall campaign on
4/7/2023. A copy of all communications will be provided when available. Owner notification will begin approximately one week after dealer notification.
Planned Dealer Notification Date : APR 07, 2023 – APR 07, 2023
Planned Owner Notification Date : APR 14, 2023 – APR 14, 2023
