Driveshaft Catch Strap Not Installed

A loose driveshaft may strike and puncture the gas tank, resulting in a fuel leak, increasing the risk of a fire.

Summary

Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2015 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles. The affected vehicles were manufactured without a driveshaft catch strap, allowing a loose driveshaft to strike the fuel tank.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 301, “Fuel System Integrity.”

Remedy

DVUSA will notify owners, and dealers will install a driveshaft catch strap, free of charge.

The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule.

Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
