Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-215 Page 5 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Tests were performed, which indicated that certain front seat trim parts might not meet specifications. At this point in time, indications were that only internal vehicles were affected. In May 2021, optimized trim parts were introduced in the relevant production plant. In parallel, a plant action was implemented to rework all potentially affected vehicles, which were still within the control of MBAG. In August 2021, it was found that there were also potentially affected vehicles in the field. Subsequently, possible consequences as well as relevant regulatory requirements for vehicles in the field were analyzed. These intensive investigations were performed until December 2021 due to the complex nature of the issue. Four different trim parts with a large number of variants, which are procured from different suppliers, were part of these investigations. Comprehensive analyses were ongoing in order to understand this issue and the dependencies between the components and to clarify whether there exists a potential safety consequence. In January 2022, further analysis was conducted to identify the potentially affected vehicle population including vehicles that might have been equipped with a potentially affected spare part. .Tracking the flow of potentially affected spare parts in coordination with logistics and markets to identify affected vehicles in the field lasted until mid-March 2022. Mercedes-Benz AG is not aware of any related customer complaints. On March 25, 2022, MBAG determined that a potential safety risk cannot be ruled out and decided to conduct a recall. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-215 Page 5 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Tests were performed, which indicated that certain front seat trim parts might not meet specifications. At this point in time, indications were that only internal vehicles were affected. In May 2021, optimized trim parts were introduced in the relevant production plant. In parallel, a plant action was implemented to rework all potentially affected vehicles, which were still within the control of MBAG. In August 2021, it was found that there were also potentially affected vehicles in the field. Subsequently, possible consequences as well as relevant regulatory requirements for vehicles in the field were analyzed. These intensive investigations were performed until December 2021 due to the complex nature of the issue. Four different trim parts with a large number of variants, which are procured from different suppliers, were part of these investigations. Comprehensive analyses were ongoing in order to understand this issue and the dependencies between the components and to clarify whether there exists a potential safety consequence. In January 2022, further analysis was conducted to identify the potentially affected vehicle population including vehicles that might have been equipped with a potentially affected spare part. .Tracking the flow of potentially affected spare parts in coordination with logistics and markets to identify affected vehicles in the field lasted until mid-March 2022. Mercedes-Benz AG is not aware of any related customer complaints. On March 25, 2022, MBAG determined that a potential safety risk cannot be ruled out and decided to conduct a recall.
