Issue | Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz, has determined that on certain MY 2020-2021 CLA-Class (118 platform) vehicles, the seals on the capacitor and the receiver drier of the air conditioning system do not meet current production specifications. Therefore, it is possible that cracks may form on the seals, which could result in loss of refrigerant. | ||
What We’re Doing | MBUSA will conduct a service campaign. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will replace the seals on the capacitor and receiver drier of the air conditioning system. | ||

SUBJECT: | Model CLA-Class (118 platform) Model Year 2020-2021 Replace Seals on the Capacitor and Receiver Drier of the Air Conditioning System |
Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain Model Year (“MY”) 2020-2021 CLA-Class (118 platform) vehicles, the seals on the capacitor and receiver drier of the air conditioning system do not correspond to our currently valid specification. It is possible that cracks may form on the seals, which may result in refrigerant loss. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will replace the seals on the capacitor and receiver drier of the air conditioning system.
Prior to performing this Campaign:
- Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired. Always Check VMI for any open campaigns, and perform accordingly.
- VMI must always be checked before performing campaigns to verify that the campaign is required on a specific vehicle. Always check for any other open campaigns, and perform accordingly.
- Please review the entire Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.
Approximately 335 vehicles are affected.

This bulletin has been created and maintained in accordance with MBUSA-SLP S423QH001, Document and Data Control, and MBUSA-SLP S424HH001, Control of Quality Records.
Work procedure
- Empty air conditioning system, evacuate.
For basic data, see AR83.30-P-1760MFA.
- Remove front bumper.
For basic data, see AR88.20-P-2000MFA.
- Remove impact absorber from crossmember.
- Loosen nut (A, Figure 1) on refrigerant line connection to right front pipe system and then tighten. Nut to right front pipe system: 12 Nm ± 1.2 Nm.
- Unscrew the screw (C, Figure 2) at the receiver drier (B, Figure 2), then remove the holder for the refrigerant lines at the receiver drier (B, Figure 2).
Screw for refrigerant line to receiver drier: 10 Nm.
- Remove bracket (E, Figure 2) behind supporting frame (D, Figure 2).
- Unscrew nuts (F, Figure 3).
Nuts to refrigerant line: 12 Nm.
- Remove refrigerant lines (G, Figure 3).
- Replace sealing rings (H, Figure 4) of refrigerant lines (G, Figure 4).
Wet new sealing rings with compressor oil (specification 362.1). For basic data, see BB00.40-P-0362-01A.
- Install refrigerant lines.
- Refill air conditioning system and check for proper operation and leaks. For basic data, see 30-P-1760MFA.
- Assemble in reverse order.

- KIT CONTENTS - 5 Cans of ZeroR Permafrost are 4oz by weight. The contents are a blend of the proprietary performance enhancer as well as a refrigerant to propel the additive into the system. The can tap is 12” in length with a gauge metered for R1234YF systems. Standard R1234YF can taps will not work on ZeroR branded R1234YF cans, because our cans have a unique thread.
- 10 MINUTE INSTALL - Please read the can label for important details. (1) Turn your vehicle on, set the AC to max cool & max fan. (2) Connect the can tap to the first can and the other end to the low side service port on the vehicle. (3) Flip the can upside down Use the valve to release the refrigerant into the system. Every 10-15 seconds close the valve to view the pressure gauge. Repeat step 3 until the pressure gauge indicates the system is full. Do not overfill your system!
- Legal - HFO-1234YF refrigerant and ZeroR branded R1234YF products are flammable and should be handled and stored in a safe environment suitable for flammable products. We recommend only using this product in systems designed for flammable refrigerants such as R1234YF vehicle a/c systems. See product label for additional safety information.
