Starter Power Supply Cable Installed Incorrectly
If the power supply cable short-circuits, it can result in a stall, increasing the risk of a crash. In addition, a short-circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

Summary
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2018-2020 AMG GLC 63 4MATIC vehicles. The power supply cable on the starter might not have been installed correctly, possibly allowing the cable to chafe against the starter housing and short-circuit.
Remedy
MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the starter harness and power supply cable installation, and correct it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 18, 2021. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. MBUSA’s number for this recall is 2021010006.

In the event of an incorrect screw connection, the power supply cable to the starter might contact the starter housing. Over time this could lead to chafing of the wire insulation on the power supply cable due to relative movements, which could result in a short circuit. Depending on the nature of the short circuit, different vehicle functions may be affected, and stalling of the vehicle, which could increase the risk of a crash, or a risk of fire cannot be ruled out. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will check the affected vehicles and install the starter harness according to specification, if necessary.
Prior to performing this Recall Campaign:
- VMI must always be checked before performing campaigns to verify that the campaign is required on a specific Always check for any other open campaigns, and perform accordingly.
- Please review the entire Recall Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.
Please note that Recall Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Check/test procedure A
- Remove lower engine compartment lining (AR61.20-P-1105LW).
The circuit 30 starter wiring harness must not be in contact with the solenoid switch (B) of the starter as in Figure 1.

The findings from the check/test procedure must be recorded on the work order.

- Disconnect ground line of battery (AR54.10-P-0003LW).
The insulation must not be damaged (any sign of chafing is considered damage). To improve accessibility, remove the quick-release fastener of the steering shaft if necessary.
- If the insulation is not damaged, the circuit 30 starter wiring harness must be reinstalled correctly and in such a way that it does not make contact with any surface that may result in chafing, taking the anti-twist lock at the solenoid switch into account.
- The findings from the check/test procedure must be recorded on the work order.

starter housing. Over time, such contact could lead to chafing of the wire insulation on the power supply cable which could lead to
a short circuit. Depending on the nature of the short circuit, different vehicle functions may be affected. This includes the
potential for a vehicle stall, which could increase the risk of a crash, or a risk of a fire.
To remedy this issue, an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will check the affected vehicles and install the starter harness
according to specification, if necessary. Unfortunately, the parts to remedy this are currently not yet available.
We are working to obtain the necessary parts to correct this condition as quickly as possible. As the parts become available, we
will send you another letter asking you to take your vehicle to an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer to have the recall completed
free of charge.
