Summary
Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Freightliner Sprinter vehicles. The lashing rails on the side walls may not have been properly installed, possibly resulting in the lashing rails detaching.
Remedy
DVUSA will notify owners, and dealers will correctly affix the lashing rails to the side walls, free of charge. DVUSA issued owners an interim notification on February 7, 2020. The recall began April 15, 2020. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. DVUSA’s number for this recall is VS3ZUSCHI.

Background |

Issue | Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain Sprinter vans (platform 907 (VS30)), the lashing rails on the left and right side walls were not installed according to manufacturing specifications. As a result, the lashing rails may not have a sufficient amount of adhesive and/or an incorrect positioning of the adhesive and lack the activator necessary for the adhesive to fully cure. Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain Sprinter vans (platform 907 (VS30)), the lashing rails on the left and right side walls were not installed according to manufacturing specifications. As a result, the lashing rails may not have a sufficient amount of adhesive and/or an incorrect positioning of the adhesive and lack the activator necessary for the adhesive to fully cure. If the lashing rails were not installed per specification, over time, the lashing rails could separate from the side walls of the vehicle, which could lead to the items being transported to become unsecured and shift inside the cargo compartment while the vehicle is operating, increasing the risk of a crash. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will affix the lashing rails to the side walls in the vehicle loading compartment of the affected vehicles in accordance with the manufacturing specifications.
Prior to performing this Recall Campaign:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain Model Year 2019 Sprinter vehicles. Our records indicate that your vehicle is included in the affected population of vehicles.
What is the CONCERN? | MBAG determined that on certain Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans, the lashing rails on the left and right side walls were not installed according to manufacturing specifications. As a result, the lashing rails may have insufficient adhesive and/or activator. If the lashing rails were not installed per specification, over time, they could separate from the side walls of the vehicle, which could lead to the items being transported to become unsecured and shift inside the cargo compartment while the vehicle is operating, increasing the risk of a crash. |
What will your DEALER DO? | An authorized Mercedes-Benz Sprinter dealer will affix the lashing rails to the side walls in the vehicle loading compartment of the affected vehicles in accordance with the manufacturing specifications. This service will be provided free of charge. We are dedicated to always delivering the best customer experience, and respect for your time is a top priority. While the minimum repair time can be up to approximately 6 hours and 30 minutes, your dealer can provide you with a better estimate of the overall time for this service visit. As a matter of normal service process, an authorized Mercedes-Benz Sprinter dealer will also check for other repair measures which might be applicable to your vehicle and this may increase the required working time. |

Dear Valued Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Sprinter vans, has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain Model Year 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vehicles. Our records indicate that your vehicle is included in the affected population of vehicles.
MBAG has determined that on certain Sprinter vans (platform 907 (VS30)), the lashing rails on the left and right side walls were not installed according to manufacturing specifications. As a result, the lashing rails may not have a sufficient amount of adhesive and/or an incorrect positioning of the adhesive and lack the activator necessary for the adhesive to fully cure. If the lashing rails were not installed per specification, over time, the lashing rails could separate from the side walls of the vehicle, which could lead to the items being transported to become unsecured and shift inside the cargo compartment while the vehicle is operating, increasing the risk of a crash.
We want to assure you that MBAG is taking all necessary measures to remedy this situation for you. We are also working closely with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”) and airbag suppliers to provide a remedy as soon as possible, and to prioritize repairs according to risk factors identified through testing. Unfortunately, replacement parts are not yet available for your vehicle, and we will contact you again once parts become available.
As soon as a suitable replacement part is available for your vehicle, we will send another letter notifying you to bring your vehicle to your local Authorized Mercedes-Benz Sprinter dealer to repair your vehicle free of charge. In the meantime, please visit www.mbvans.com/sprinter/owners-resources/recall and enter your 17 digit VIN in the VIN Look-up tool, then enter your most recent contact information.
