Chronology :
At the beginning of April 2023, MBAG launched initial investigations based on reports from vehicles in the internal logistics process where a towing eye could not be seated correctly. In the course of these investigations the vehicles and parts were analyzed together with the supplier.
These analyses concluded that the manufacturing tolerances of the receiver for the towing eye might not meet specifications. Further investigations were performed to check the potentially affected batch of receivers together with the supplier. On this basis, the potential field population was investigated.
Subsequently, analyses of the potential consequences for the vehicles in the field were performed. In addition, relevant worldwide regulatory requirements were researched. These analyses lasted until August 2023.
On September 1, 2023, MBAG determined that a potential safety risk cannot be ruled out and decided to conduct a recall.
On September 20, MBAG noticed a momentary IT system issue that resulted in vehicles erroneously being excluded from the field measure. The review and fix of the IT system issue identified an additional 265 vehicles that were previously not included in the recall, now being added to NHTSA recall #23V629.
MBAG confirms there are no warranty claims, field or service reports, or other information related to this defect in the USA. No third party damages or personal injuries have been reported.

These vehicles will require a replacement crossmember, however, parts are not available for an immediate repair. When parts become available, an additional notification letter will be sent to inform owners to schedule an appointment with an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer, and have the vehicle repair performed at no cost to you. The front tow eye should not be used until the repair has been performed. Once parts become available, the repair time can be less than four hours, but your dealer can provide you with a better estimate of the overall time for this visit. As a matter of normal service process, the authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will also check for other repair measures that might be applicable to your vehicle, which may increase the required working time. DATE: October 20, 2023 News Channel Update | Vehicle Compliance & Analysis Recall Campaign Initial Notification
Campaign No. : NHTSA ID Campaign Desc. : 2023090010 23V629 23P6290004 October 20, 2023
Inspect Front Tow Eye Receiver This is to notify you of the Recall Campaign Launch to inspect the front tow eye receiver on 12,118 Model Year (“MY”) 2023 GLC (254 platform) vehicles. The recall campaign will be visible on the www.NHTSA.gov website and may generate questions from customers. Affected VINs will be flagged in VMI as “OPEN” on October 20, 2023.
Background
Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain Model Year (“MY”) 2023 GLC (254 platform) vehicles, the tow eye receiver in the front Issue What We’re Doing Process Flow Parts crossmember might not meet current specifications. The front tow eye may be inadequately threaded to the crossmember and can detach under load. A detached tow eye can separate the vehicle from the towing device, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
MBUSA will conduct a voluntary recall. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will inspect the front crossmember on the affected vehicles. After the inspection, the vehicle will fall into one of two categories: Category 1: Vehicles with the tow eye receiver in the front crossmember that meet current specifications. No further action or repairs are necessary. Category 2: Vehicles with the tow eye receiver in the front crossmember that do not meet current specifications. These vehicles will require a replacement crossmember, however, parts are not available for an immediate repair. When parts become available, an additional notification letter will be sent to inform owners to schedule an appointment with an authorized Mercedes- Benz dealer, and have the vehicle repaired. The front tow eye should not be used until the repair has been performed.
1) The dealer must close out the inspection campaign:
a. This will trigger a new campaign based on the claimed warranty operation codes. If the claimed operation code matches Category 2, the vehicle will be moved to a new “PENDING” campaign (will occur once per week due to insufficient parts stock).
b. This process only affects the opening of a subsequent “PENDING” campaign in VMI and does not have an impact on parts shipment. 2) The dealer must claim the correct warranty operation codes for Category 2. The remedy is available and can be performed. A quantity of one special tool will be sent to each dealership automatically. No need to order.

Campaign No. : NHTSA ID Campaign Desc. : 2023120002 23V629 23P6290006 January 5, 2024
Replace the Front Crossmember This is to notify you of the Recall Campaign Launch to replace the front crossmember on 761 Model Year (“MY”) 2023 GLC (254 platform) vehicles. The recall campaign will be visible on the www.NHTSA.gov website and may generate questions from customers. Affected VINs will be flagged in VMI as “OPEN” on January 5, 2024.
Background
Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain MY2023 GLC (254 platform) vehicles, the tow eye receiver in the front crossmember Issue What We’re Doing Parts might not meet current specifications. The front tow eye may be inadequately threaded to the crossmember and can detach under load. A detached tow eye can separate the vehicle from the towing device which could increase the risk of a crash or injury.
MBUSA will conduct a voluntary recall. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will replace the front crossmember on the affected vehicles.
The remedy is available and can be performed.
