Check that rear switch module (N38) is present, replace if necessary and/or perform SCN coding

- Always use the latest XENTRY Diagnosis software release with all available add-ons.
- Make sure to follow the operation steps exactly as described in XENTRY Diagnosis.
- Use a charger to ensure sufficient power supply of the vehicle 12 V on-board electrical system battery (greater than 12.5 V).
- If XENTRY Diagnosis is already connected to the vehicle, start with operation step 2.
If two or more software updates or SCN codings are performed during one workshop visit, the operation items 02-4762 and 02-5058 may only be invoiced once for each workshop order.
Check/test procedure 1
- Connect XENTRY Diagnosis.
- Check that rear switch module (N38) is present using XENTRY Diagnosis.
For this purpose, check whether the rear switch module (N38) is shown in the quick test view in XENTRY Diagnosis.
a. Rear switch module (N38) not present in the quick test view in XENTRY Diagnosis: Carry out work procedures 1 and 2.
b. Rear switch module (N38) present in the quick test view in XENTRY Diagnosis: Carry out check/test procedure 2.
Check/test procedure 2
- Check function of rear switch module (N38).
For this purpose, walk to trunk lid and carry out leg movement under rear bumper (See Operator’s Manual).
a. Function of rear switch module (N38) not OK: Only carry out work procedure 2.
b. Function of rear switch module (N38) OK: End measure.
Work procedure 1
- Remove dummy rear switch module (N38) and replace it by a new rear switch module (N38).
For basic information, see AR80.61-P-0011WT.
Properly dispose of removed dummy rear switch module (N38). For this purpose, observe applicable legal requirements of the respective country.
- Continue with work procedure 2.
Work procedure 2
- Perform SCN coding in rear switch module (N38)
For basic information, see AR54.21-P-0015X.
To do this, select menu item “Quick test view – N38 rear switch module (HSM) – Adaptations – Control unit update – Update of SCN coding”.
Then follow the user guidance in XENTRY Diagnosis.
- Disconnect XENTRY Diagnosis.

In order to use the J2534 complaint software for Mercedes-Benz vehicles, the purchaser must furnish their own:
- Windows based PC or laptop*
- J2534 compliant interface box*1*
*Must be purchased from a third party company and are not available from Mercedes-Benz USA LLC.

Vehicle Coverage
J2534 complaint software for Mercedes-Benz vehicles has coverage for all required functions associated to reprogramming, initialization, and fault clearing of emission control modules (engine and transmission) fitted to vehicles 2004 Model Year and newer. Additionally all access and functionality required in regard the configuration via SCN Coding and/or CVN Coding is covered.
J2534 complaint software for Mercedes-Benz vehicles is delivered via DVD media which is delivered monthly for the license term of one year upon purchase.
- All control unit software (reprogramming calibrations) is contained within J2534 DVD media.
Terms and conditions
J2534 complaint software for Mercedes-Benz vehicles is purchased in 1-year license increments. During that license term the user will receive an initial software package, license key, SCN/CVN Coding information/access as well as monthly updates via DVD media.
- Additional updates of software after the 1st year can be purchased at additional cost, however are not required for the system to continue functioning.
