If the seat belt binds, slack may develop through occupant movement which may lead to increased personal injury in the event of a crash.
Summary
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. (MBUSA) is recalling certain model year 2018 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT, AMG GT R, AMG GT C and AMG GT S vehicles. The seat belts may bind within the guidance loops possibly causing slack in the seat belts.
Remedy
MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will reconfigure the seat belt guides, free of charge. Owners will be notified of the recall in January 2018 and they will receive a second letter when the parts become available, currently expected to be in February 2018. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-877-496-3691.

| This is to notify you of an upcoming Recall Campaign to retrofit additional components to the seatbelt guidance on 942 MY 2018 Model 190
(AMG GT-Class) vehicles. Please review the recall information below. The recall campaign will be visible on the www.safercar.gov website and may generate questions from customers. Affected VINs will be flagged in VMI as “PENDING” on January 9, 2018. | ||||
| Background | ||||
| Issue | Daimler AG (“DAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain AMG GT-Class vehicles (190 platform), the seat belt may bind within the seat belt guide loop during normal operation. The resulting slack in the seatbelt could impair the restraint function of the seatbelt. | |||
| What We’re Doing | MBUSA will conduct a voluntary recall. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will retrofit an additional sliding component to the seatbelt guidance loop. | |||
| Parts | Parts are currently unavailable. A supplementary notification will be distributed once parts are available. | |||

| Given this notice, it is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to sell or lease any new MY18 AMG GT-Class vehicles in dealer inventory covered by this notification until the vehicle has been repaired. Once remedy parts are available, the vehicles will be flagged as “OPEN” and Work Instructions will be available in Star TekInfo. Once the repair is complete, the vehicle may be sold or leased.
Loaner and demonstrator vehicles may continue to be driven, but must not be retailed until repaired.
Additionally, given this notice, it is a violation of Federal Law for car rental companies to rent new MY18 AMG GT-Class vehicles covered by this notification until the vehicle has been repaired. | ||||
